Our Computer Science Discoveries Course gives high school students a comprehensive background of spatial computing and computer science, an introduction into VR and the Engage spatial computing platform, and teaches them to design, build and deploy their own VR experiences.

Students who complete this self-paced course can earn college credit (3 hours) at Mississippi State University for the course PCS 4103 VR Content Creation.

The Growing Fields of Computer Science, Spatial Computing & Virtual Reality

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of computer and mathematical occupations will grow 22 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations.

The VR market is expected to grow at an average rate of over 40% per year for the next six years.

The spatial computing market is expected to grow from $17.8 billion in 2022 to $187.5 billion by 2028, at a CAGR of 60.8%. 

Employers are looking for workers with skills in areas such as software development, data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Growth in VR and Spatial Computing is being driven by industries, such as gaming, entertainment, education, training, healthcare, real estate, retail, manufacturing, engineering, and architecture.

Roughly 25% of all computer science jobs do not require a college degree. Rather, companies look for technical skills acquired from certifications.

The global VR market is expected to grow from $18.6 billion in 2022 to $148.8 billion by 2028, at a CAGR of 43.6%.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for computer and mathematical occupations in 2021 was $100,910.
